A comparison of the most popular 🟥🟨🟦🟩-tests, and a look at @chivo.opleidingen's and Moralys NL's unique new scientifically validated test.

Color tests reflect your behavior and motivations, starting meaningful conversations.

Fascinating, yes—but what if these tests could do even more?

To explore this, consider two key concepts: Validity and Reliability.

Validity: Does the test measure what it claims to? Can it predict practical outcomes, like job performance, or is it just a conversation starter?

Reliability: Does it consistently give the same outcome from measurement to measurement?

The attached carousel answers these questions for 7 widely used color tests.

Finally, I introduce the HERO profiler: a scientifically validated values-and-personality test that predicts well-being and work performance.

If the government makes decisions that disregard the personal values (or interests) of citizens, it leads to sabotage.

These same citizens will look for “a stick to beat with”, even if it’s flawed and wrong.

You can see this reflected in voting behavior in the US, France, and the Netherlands.

❌ Myth: Happiness stops increasing after earning $75k annually, also known as the "Easterlin Paradox." [Kahneman 2010]

Money is only a *tool* that can lead to either more or less happiness. [Study 4]

Imagine you’re feeling low, and you try to numb or suppress this feeling by:

👉 Booking a world trip to multiple Asian countries in a row, travelling with a not-so-great friend.

👉 Buying an luxurious car to get admiration from people you don’t actually like.

These actions often make you focus *less* on your meaningful relationships.

Thereby damaging your psychological need for 🔗Connection:

Receiving warm and genuinely interested attention from others.

… and ultimately damaging your happiness. [2,3]

View money as a tool to fulfil your psychological needs (Autonomy, Connection, Competence). Let it serve your happiness.

🎓 We teach about the *𝙗𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡* basic needs, like sleep and nutrition, but we also need to teach students (and leaders such as teachers or parents):

What are the *𝙥𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡* basic needs (PBNs), and how are they fulfilled or damaged? [Ryan & Deci 2017]

For example, the PBN of Autonomy:

"Imagine you could choose the school subjects you truly enjoy, find interesting, or consider important…

… and when you share this at home, your parents are happy for you - instead of worried."

PBNs, such as Autonomy in this example, can be:

1. Fulfilled: “I feel freedom in how and in what I develop.”

2. Unfilfilled: “I feel little freedom in how and in what I develop.”

3. Damaged : “My environment actively limits my freedom, and I feel pressured to meet others' expectations.”

“Damaged” is not the opposite of fulfillment but a completely different, “actively opposing” dimension.

It's a strong predictor of burnout.* [Reyes 2023]

With more insight into the 3 PBNs, students better understand why they sometimes feel exhausted, cynical, and ineffective.

And which interactions, with teachers/parents/peers, cause these feelings.

Additionally, a focus on material goals is the strongest predictor of damaged PBNs: [Reyes 2023]

Such as performance or image goals, like high grades for subjects that do not align with the student’s authentic values and development wishes.

And who imposes these goals?

YOU have an identity, preferences, and PBNs – so do students.

Prioritizing this in education means prioritizing their well-being and laying a societal foundation for dignity, which can solve so many problems.
